Joshua Tree
Aujourd'hui, direction Joshua Tree !

Vincent Van Gogh spent his last days in Auvers sur Oise, in the north of Île-de France. Inspired by the idyllic countryside, he painted approximately 70 pictures in about as many days.
We had timed our visit to view the rising tides (schedule here). The rising tides can be viewed in many places, below is a popular lookout point on the Chemin des Ramparts, the waterless bay behind it. Even though it is recommended to arrive 2 hours in advance of the highest tide, we could barely make out the tide progression at an hour and 15 min. before. We see this in the picture on the right, as the bay in the distance becomes submerged.
To get to Mont St Michel, we took the train from Paris to Pontorson (approx. 4hrs, via Caen or Rennes, no direct train), the closest town to Mont St Michel with a train station, at 9km away. We didn’t want to wait for the bus and walked the whole way ! There is an unpaved path following the Couesnon River all the way to the Mont. From the train station, you exit the parking lot, cross rue de Dr Bailleul & keep walking straight until you see this park on your right. The path and river are just behind the trees.
Mont St Michel by night is the opposite of what it is by day; it is near empty and quiet. Luminous and void of the bustle and activity of day, it feels magical and mysterious…
We arrived in Bayeux on Sunday afternoon with nothing particular planned for the day other than to walk around town. I’d lost my guidebook in Mont St Michel 😯 but no prob! The 10 min. walk from the train station to city center was well-posted… We first stopped by the tourist office; along the way, we passed fields and a small stream, the river Aure. .
Monsieur Chat, but what’s that ? People come to Paris to admire the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral, its many historic buildings and… its GRAFFITI?!? Okay, maybe not this last one… 😉 But for cat-lovers like our TigrouMeow, it is a lovely pleasure to greet « Monsieur Chat » (more on him later). And we get a kick out of stumbling upon « Space Invader » mosaics and other artistic touches left by anonymous contributors on the walls of Paris. Below is St. Michael’s Fountain (La Fontaine de St. Michel) in the 5th arrondissement, facing the Seine River. Do you see a pair of eyes peering at you? Meooowwww! Maybe you won’t find it right away, but I’m guessing after you go through all the pictures, you will!
